Correspondence written by Charles R. Short, U.S. Navy Third Class Petty Officer deployed to Japan during the Vietnam War. His letters are written to Nancy Lee and Ellen P. Short of Cannon, Delaware from 1964-1967. Short writes about his struggles during induction training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois, as well as his perception of women and women's roles. Once stationed in Japan, Short writes of his personal relationships with women including a romantic affair with a Japanese woman, Sumiko, of whom the family disagrees.

The George and Lucy Toothill papers document George Toothill’s naval assignments shortly after World War I. The papers date from 1918-1923 with the bulk of the papers dating from 1918-1919. The papers include a journal kept by George in 1919 documenting his travels, correspondence from various family members and friends, and naval identification materials. In addition to George’s papers there is a correspondence to Lucy from a family friend written in 1923.

The John Luke Porter papers consist of genealogy of the Trader, Bailey, and Porter families, as well as excerpts, and correspondence about the naval battle between the C.S.S. VIRGINIA and the U.S.S. MONITOR. The research was conducted by James Trader, Maryland Eastern Shore local, he traced his genealogy back to the 17th century Virginia; these papers reflect the research from 2002-2003. He found that he was related to several military figures, such as John Luke Porter, the architect of the C.S.S VIRGINIA.

The Lieutenant Allan Morton Thomas Jr. Letters consists of letters and personal correspondence from Lieutenant Allan Morton Thomas Jr., USNR. to his wife Georgia E. Thomas from 1942 to 1945. Thomas Jr. was a Lieutenant on LCI(L) - 225 in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Thomas Jr. wrote about his life aboard the ship in the censored locations of the Pacific Theater. Several letters have missing pages and some lines are censored by the U.S. Navy. At the time, Thomas Jr.’s wife Georgia E. Thomas and daughter Margaret Anne, lived primarily in Bethesda, Maryland, and Minneapolis, Minnesota. The transcription of the letters is attached. The digital reproductions of the letters include telegrams, pictures, and newspaper clippings.

The collection contains advertising, correspondence, photographs, periodicals and ephemera offering insight into the Gunby family and into business and civic life on the Delmarva Peninsula. It includes photographs of L.W. Gunby and of Joseph A. Graham, the editor of the Kansas City Times. It also includes a notebook of original poetry by S. Norris Pilchard Jr. and correspondence and periodicals from S. Norris Pilchard III's service in the United States’ Navy during the Second World War.

The Serrell Family Collection documents the personal and family history of Andrew Serrell (1923-2018) including the Serrell family, Demetre family, Odier family, and other ancestors. Personal items relating to Andrew Serrell's career in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1974 include pilot logs, photographs, naval orders, and other service-related documents. Serrell's paternal family, including the puppeteer Edith Serrell, lived primarily in Dobbs Ferry, New York and are documented through photographs, correspondence, and other documents. Serrell's maternal family--the Demetre and Odier families--frequently went back and forth between France, New Orleans, and New York City. This branch of the family is heavily documented through family histories, correspondence, photographs, drawings, and business papers. There are also three framed portrait paintings and several artifacts.

The World War II Veterans project records document orally and written the histories of Wicomico County, Maryland men and women who served in the differing branches of the military during World War II. Written and audio evidence documents the veteran’s enlistment, rank, military unit, and where they were stationed for the duration of the war. Records were collected by Sylvia Bradley and the Westside Historical Society in 1995 with subsequent records periodically added in 1996.
